Unruhige Zeiten / Restless Times

21.06.2020 until 16.08.2020

Parallel to the special exhibition "Otto Fried- Heaven can wait", which also focuses on the flight to America and his artistic career in exile, holdings from the museum's own collection are presented, which thematically focus on the themes of flight, expulsion, torture, remembering and forgetting. These include in particular works by the artists Magdalena Abakanovicz, Christian Boltanski, Jochen Gerz, Pierre et Gilles, Patrick Raynaud, Milos Sobaic and V/O Medhermeneutica. In an individual way, they react to experiences of persecution and oppression, but translate them into a supra-individual language that is generally understandable and comprehensible to the viewer. Questions of how to deal with the memory of atrocities and the historical dimension of the chaos of war are impressively demonstrated by the work of Christian Boltanski and Milos Sobaic, while Jochen Gerz laconically presents the demarcation of inner-German borders during the time of the GDR. The oppressive works of Magdalena Abakanowicz and Pierre et Gilles bear witness to exclusion and oppression. The two positions of Patrick Raynaud and V/O Medhermeneutica prove that memory always has something to do with a work of apparent archiving, of attaching oneself to objects.

Vernissage: Juni 21, 2020.
