Museums Need Friends!

Play an active role in the cultural life of Coblenz ! We offer you an appropriate forum for experiencing in a compelling manner not only art but also cultural and urban history. Please lend your support to the Middle-Rhine Museum, with its close connection to the city and the surrounding region, and to the Ludwig Museum im Deutschherrenhaus, which is dedicated to the contemporary art of France.

The Ludwig Museum was first opened in 1992. It is based on an initiative of the Coblenz native and art collector Peter Ludwig along with his wife Irene, both of whom are renowned throughout the world for their exceptional art collection and their establishment of some thirteen museums. When this particular museum was founded, the Ludwigs gave to the city of Coblenz works of classical Modernism and of contemporary art, and they made important loans available. The collection is concentrated upon the contemporary art of France . It is continually being extended through loans and purchases. Numerous exhibitions of French artists along with international projects enhance the attractiveness of the museum. This particular profile renders it unique amid the German and international museum landscapes.

In addition, both of the city's museums offer you lectures, concerts and symposia as well as vividly interesting activities devoted to museum pedagogy.

Museums very much need a lively encounter with their audiences, and they require as well broad support of both an ideal and financial nature.

The Friends of the Middle-Rhine Museum and the Ludwig Museum in Coblenz e.V. have set themselves the goal of promoting the work of these two Coblenz museums. By becoming a member, you help the two museums to fulfill their tasks: the promotion of the cultivation and preservation of the collections, the acquisition of artworks in accordance with the suggestions of the museum direction, the financial support of exhibitions and events in the museums, etc.

Furthermore, you lend support to the crucial work of the pedagogical presentation of art and cultural history, with regard to both the members and the wider public, and you make possible through your purposeful participation the issuing of various publications.

As a member, you enjoy free admission to the exhibitions and to the permanent collections of the museums. The patrons' association offers separate guided tours to its members and conducts special events such as excursions or museum festivals. Regular editions of artworks with a limited number of copies make it possible to begin a collecting activity similar to that of museums. As a friend of both museums, you make an active contribution to enriching the cultural life of the city.

If you would like to become a member, please contact the Secretarial Office directly or send us an e-mail.
