| Robert Schad (born 1953 in Ravensburg), who studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe , is one of the most promising sculptors of his generation. He received his first scholarship already in 1980, for a working period in Porto ( Portugal ). This was followed by more scholarships and numerous awards: Kulturstiftung Baden-Württemberg (1984), working scholarship of the Kunstfonds Bonn (1987), scholarship of the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (1988) as well as, amongst others, the following awards: award for drawing of the III. Biennale for contemporary art, Portugal , "1. Mentio" im XXV. Award for drawing Joan Miró, Barcelona (1986), Great Award of the II. International Biennale for Sculpture in Obidos , Portugal . He is also a Visiting Professor at the Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Stuttgart.
Robert Schad lives and works in Larians , France since 2000, where he is constructing a huge sculpture park. He has had numerous single exhibitions in important museums.
The intention of the exhibition is to redefine the inside and outside of the museum building with his sculptures and to accompany these with his drawings. He works with square iron rods
of different strength, resulting mostly in delicate constructions which seem to come off the ground, reconnoitre and finally occupy the room. Besides the definitions of the inner room Robert Schad's dialogues with nature are admirable: his sculptural "drawings" sometimes reach the height of tall trees or architectural ensembles. Therefore in the Koblenz exhibition the artist will make use of the adjoining Blumenhof (a small park), and the area in front of the wall. Because Robert Schad's sculptures appear to move or dance, a dance performance with Fine Kwiatkowski, Berlin, is under preparation for the Koblenz exhibition.
The Ludwig museum will mark the beginning of a series of exhibitions, followed by Prague , Budapest and Lausanne and probably also by venues in Spain and Portugal . A catalogue will be issued in different languages. |
