EXEMPLIFIZIEREN WIRD KUNST (Exemplification Becomes Art) - ZUM FUNDAMENT KONKRETEN GESTALTENS (The fundament of concrete design)
July 31 – August 31, 2008

Ewerdt Hilgemann, Triple, 225 x 75 x 75 cm, Edelstahl

The touring exhibition “Exemplifizieren wird Kunst” was initiated by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) and started as a project discussing exemplification and Concrete Art at the Department of Philosophy, University of Saarland. Against the background of Nelson Goodman’s theory of exemplification, this exhibition is meant as an attempt to add another explanation by means of selected works by international artists. The exhibition centres on the meaning-creating combination of cooperation and competition between visual means of art and conceptual separation. Works of Hiromi Akayama (J), John Carter (GB), Jo Enzweiler (D), Hans Jörg Glattfelder (CH), Hajo Hangen (D), Ewerdt Hilgemann (D), Vera Molnar (H), Ben Buthofer (D), Yves Popet (F), Dirk Rausch (D), Sigurd Rompza (D), Klaus Staudt (D), and Peter Weber (D) are presented in the exhibition. Before reaching the Ludwig Museum, Koblenz, the exhibition has already been presented at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Ludwigshafen, and Vasarely Museum, Budapest. An exhibition catalogue has been published, edited by Dietfried Gerhardus.
