The Irish photographer Edward Quinn lived and worked on the Côte d’Azur which during the “Golden Fifties” was the playground of the celebrities from the world of show biz, art and business.
The rich and famous came to the Riviera to relax. Amongst a great number of celebrities whom Quinn photographed may be mentioned Brigitte Bardot, Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, Prince Rainier, Grace Kelly, Churchill, Onassis. In 1951 Quinn met and photographed Pablo Picasso for the first time. Their friendship lasted until Picasso’s death.
During these 20 years, Quinn was able to make several books and films about the painter, and his photographs were shown in many international exhibitions. Since the 60’s, Quinn concentrated his work on artists, amongst them Max Ernst, Francis Bacon, Salvador Dali and David Hockney. In the late 80’s a relationship similar to his friendship with Picasso, linked Quinn to Georg Baselitz.

| Yul Brynner machte mit seiner Frau ein paar Tage Urlaub an einem geheimen Ort in Saint-Tropez. Dennoch zeigte sich Brynner mit seinem neuen silbergrauen Mercedes-Benz 300 SL in der Öffentlichkeit. Er fuhr damit den Quai entlang und genehmigte sich in einem der kleinen Restaurants einen Drink. Der Mann, der freundlicherweise auf seinen Wagen aufpasste, bekam ein grosszügiges Trinkgeld.
